why you need this avocado feta dip!

Having a great party dip is a must in any adult life. Have a Superbowl party coming up - bring a dip, having friends over - put chips and dip out first.
And while the common avocado recipe is guacamole, this Avocado feta dip is a great alternative if you want something a little different or someone else is already bringing guac. The best part is that it’s SO easy to make, let me show you!

  • Easy to make: Everything just goes into a blender and that’s it!
  • Packed with protein: With Greek yogurt and feta, this dip packs in XX grams of protein per serving.
  • Versatile: This side dish can be enjoyed as a dip, as part of a grain bowl, or spread it on a savory bagel!

recipe ingredients

Ingredients for feta dip including avocado, greek yogurt, feta, salt, jalapeno, lime juice, cilantro paste, and garlic powder.

All substitutions are a 1:1 substitute unless otherwise noted. See recipe card for quantities.

substitutions & variations

  • Add a fresh topping: For a fresh twist, try topping the feta dip with diced tomatoes and red onions just before serving. You could also top it with a fresh salsa like pico de gallo.
  • Cilantro: You can use ¼ cup (or about a handful) of fresh cilantro in place of the paste. You will just need to add a little more oil or water to thin it out.
  • Garlic: You can use 1 tablespoon of fresh minced garlic in place of garlic powder.
  • Make it not spicy: You can leave the jalapeno out but the flavors are designed to compliment the spice so it’s not as good without the jalapeno.

This recipe has not been tested with other substitutions or variations. If you replace or add any ingredients, please let us know how it turned out in the comments below!

recipe testing notes

Throughout our testing of this avocado feta dip, we learned what worked and didn't work. Here are the key takeaways!

  • I tried to make this dairy-free: I did test this by using both mayo and a plant-based yogurt in place of the Greek yogurt and a plant-based feta. It did not work. The textures were off and the plant-based feta doesn’t whip up like traditional feta.
  • Adding water: Depending on if you plan to use this recipe as dip or as a sauce, you can add a splash of water to thin out the sauce. This won’t affect the flavor unless you add more than say ¼ cup of water, in which case just taste it and adjust with salt.

expert tips for a joy-filled experience

To make sure this recipe goes off without a hitch, here are a few key tips!

  • Deseed the jalapeno for a manageable level of spice. With the seeds, the dip is way too spicy.
  • Taste and adjust as you go. Always taste and adjust the seasoning or acid as needed.
  • Layer the items in the blender as noted in the recipe. This order is designed to make it so you won’t have much stuck in the blender corners.

common questions

How should I serve this dip?

I love to serve this dip with tortilla chips or carrots! It would also be good with toasted bread, pita chips, bell peppers, and cucumbers. You can also try it as a spread on a bagel or toast or as a sauce on a grain bowl.

Do my avocados need to be ripe for this recipe?

Yes, you need to have ripe or over-ripe avocados for this recipe. To make sure they are ripe, give them a gentle squeeze. They should have a slight give to them.

Is this just guacamole?

No, silly this is not guacamole! This has yogurt and feta to make it a super creamy avocado dip that shares some of the same ingredients as guacamole.

Will this dip turn brown?

Nope, I have had it in my fridge for 5 days, and no sign of turning brown!
